About SHEDG
Our Background The strategic plan charts the course to create a healthy, vital community for our children, future generations and us. Updates to the original plan continue to empower the community in its quest. In 1992, in an effort to raise funds for community projects, SHEDG sponsored the first annual Oregon Jamboree in Sweet Home. The Jamboree is the Northwest's largest annual country music and camping festival, featuring superstar entertainment for nearly 20,000 over its three days. Through the Jamboree a stable source of revenue is available for economic development. Many grants for economic development require matching funds, and Sweet Home is able to help grantees secure those grants from Jamboree earnings. Funds from the Jamboree also help support the retention of an economic development professional to aid the existing business community, encourage tourism and help recruit businesses to Sweet Home. The Sweet Home Economic Development Group, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c) 4 corporation governed by a nine member Board of Directors, which includes representation from civic groups, partnering organizations, the school district and local businesses. SHEDG partners with other local organizations to help local businesses. The Breakfast Club is an example of the collaboration of SHEDG with the Sweet Home Chamber of Commerce.
