The next stop is the Mountain House, site of the original 1876 wagon stop, one of the last homesteads on the route. From this point, the ascent is steep gaining over 2,500 feet in just seven miles up to Tombstone Pass (elevation 4,241 feet). Along the way, several pullouts offer the opportunity to watch wildlife and enjoy the vistas of Jumpoff Joe, Green Mountain and Iron Mountain.
