Sweet Home Ranger District Campground Guide

Sites are on a first come first serve basis.

Trout Creek

Location - On Highway 20

Distance from Sweet Home - 18 miles

Sites - 24 sites - 8 suitable for RV's over 24 feet

Roads and Spurs - Paved

Facilities - Water = hand pumps; toilets = vault toilets

Activities - Menagerie Wilderness, Walton Ranch Interpretive Trail, viewing platforms and wildlife interpretive signs (barrier-free access).  Also nearby - Old Santiam Wagon Road and Gordon Lakes trails.  Free day-use area.

 

Yukwah

Location - On Highway 20, on the banks of the South Santiam River

Distance from Sweet Home - 18 1/4 miles east

Sites - 20 sites, all suitable for RV's.  Sites 8-11 are designed for barrier-free access (first come, first serve basis and not restricted for use by only people with disabilities)

Facilities - Water = hand pumps; toilets = vault toilets (one barrier-free)

Activities - Fishing, swimming and hiking available nearby.  Nature trail accesses two barrier-free fishing platforms. Campground located in a second growth Dourglas-fir forest.

 

Fernview

Distance from Sweet Home - 22 miles east of Sweet Home

Sites - 22 sites. 2 suitable for small RV's.

Facilities - Water = hand pumps; toilets = one vault toilet

Activities - Access to the South Santiam River is difficult for young children and senior citizens.  Rooster Rock trailhead is across Highway 20 and accesses the Menagerie Wilderness.

 

House Rock

Distance from Sweet Home - 25 miles east of Sweet Home off Latiwi Creek Road (Forest Road 2044).

Sites - 17 sites with tables and fire rings.  4 picnic sites in a free day-use area with barbeques.

Roads and Sprus - gravel.

Facilities - Water = hand pumps; toilets = vault toilets

Activities - Camp located at the confluence of Sheep Creek and the South Santiam River in an old-growth grove.  The House Rock trail starts in the day-use area and offers a .8 mile loop along the river.  The trail uses a portion of the historic Old Santiam Wagon Road and brings hikers to the base of House Rock Falls.

 

Lost Prairie

Distance from Sweet Home - 38 miles east of Sweet Home on Highway 20

Sites - 18 sites, 2 suitable for RV's.

Facilities - Water = hand pumps; toilets = vault toilets

Activities - The campground is located along Hackleman Creek in an area of fir, spruce and Douglas fir.  Cone Peak Trail, Iron Mountain Trail and Hackleman Old-Growth grove are nearby.  Easily accessable, the Old Santiam Wagon Road runs past the grounds.

 

Longbow Organization Campground

(Group Site - Reservations Required)

Distance from Sweet Home - 21 miles east

Directions - Take Highway 20 approximately 18 miles from Sweet Home and then travel 3 miles down Gordon Road (Forest Road 2032).

Amenities - Located along the South Santiam River, this group site includes a covered cooking area, covered dining hall with fireplace and seating for 40.  Six alpine shelters with fireplaces are capable of sleeping 48.  An amplitheater that seats 75 is located near a volleyball court.  The campground has one vault toilet and a hand pump for water.  Limited parking will accomodate 10 to 12 vehicles. The site is not suitable for RV's.
